Authorities are investigating an accident on I-95 in Miami that led to a woman sustaining life threatening injuries after her Toyota was hit by a truck.
Police say the crash occurred on Interstate 95 in Miami where the driver of a Chevy pickup truck crashed into a Toyota Corolla that had just exited the highway.
Witnesses say the collision pushed the female driver of the Toyota Corolla into an uncontrollable skid. Officials said the Corolla was stopped by the back of an 18-wheeler semi-trailer truck that was stopped at a traffic light.
EMS arrived to the scene of the crash to administer first aid to the victims of the crash. The driver of the blue Toyota Corolla sustained serious head injuries and was taken to a trauma medical center by ambulance. Her medical condition is unknown at the time of this report.
The driver of the Chevy pickup truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries while the driver of the 18-wheeler was unhurt in the crash.
Police say the crash remains an active investigation and say no other details were released.
Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash. “Rear-end accidents are one of the most dangerous kinds of accidents. Often, when a person is rear-ended they are completely taken off-guard and have not had an opportunity to brace for an impact. Rear-end accidents often lead to serious back and neck injuries. We hope that those involved receive the proper medical care.”
