Two Police Officers Hurt In Head-On Accident In Miami-Dade
March 10, 2018 The Accident and Injury Team

Two officers with the Miami-Dade Police Department are in the hospital following a violent head-on accident.

Miami-Dade Police said the crash happened on Southwest 157th Avenue, between 163rd and 164th Street. Police said a man driving on the wrong side of the road slammed into the police cruiser.

One officer had to be airlifted to the hospital with a serious head injury and an arm fracture. The second officer complained of neck pain and went to the hospital by ambulance. He is currently in stable.

Investigators believe the driver was under the influence of either alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. He’s been identified by police as 30-year-old Miami man. He’s was also taken to the hospital with injuries.  A witness at the crash said that the officers both had injuries to their backs and necks.

The only information about the two officers was that they have both been with the department for less than a year.

Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash.  “It is unfortunate to see injuries to police officers here in Miami-Dade.    We hope all involved quickly recover from their injuries.  Please keep our streets safe and never get behind the wheel while impaired”
