Police stated that a tractor-trailer carrying beer kegs and other containers fell from an overpass. This caused a major accident on the Herny Watterson Expressway exit, I-65 and I-264.
According to Louisville Metro Police Department, a car hit the truck on interstate 65. This occurrence the truck to swerve off the overpass. The containers inside spilled onto the highway. It was reported that the car was a Toyota driven by a 51-year-old man. The Toyota impacted the truck which caused it to flip onto the guardrail and knock it’s contents onto the road below, police said.
It was reported that a Cadillac SUV and a Chrysler minivan were driving below the overpass when they were struck by some of the containers. Some containers fell on the front side of the SUV, which made the 31-year-old driver lose control of the vehicle. The driver then swerved and sideswiped the minivan.
The drivers of the tractor-trailer and the Toyota were not injured, police said. However, the 2 passengers of the SUV were injured and their driver was reported to be in critical condition. the three passengers and driver of the mini van were all reportedly severely injured as well.
The victims have been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
