A 16-year-old girl suffered a head injury in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Miami-Dade County.
Miami-Dade Police Department reported that this accident occurred on Miller Drive. Officers said an ATV left the roadway hitting a guardrail and road sign, causing both riders to be ejected onto the roadway.
The driver of the ATV was a 17-year-old boy who was slightly injured during the crash. “I was told he lost control and crashed the ATV,” Miami-Dade police reported. The female passenger on the ATV was transported by ambulance to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Miami-Dade Police Officers said neither subject was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Police have not released the names of the accident victims. Miller Drive is temporarily being closed to traffic because of this traffic accident. Charges are pending against the driver for driving an ATV on public roads.
Responding agencies also included the Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash. “It is unfortunate to see injuries to a rider and his passenger on an ATV. Please only ride ATV’s on designated and safe off-road terrain. We hope they both quickly recover from their injuries.”
