The spokesman of the emergency crew reported that 18 children was injured in a single-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Durrett Lane.
According to the report, a school bus, while returning after school hours crash into a ditch on the side of the road. The crash took place after a heavy rainfall, police said.
The 43-year-old driver of the bus appeared to have lost control of it when he was navigating the bend, police said in a statement. The police said they cannot say for sure what lead to the accident, but it appear to be a cause of different factors. One of the factor might be speeding on a wet road. Police also mentioned that it may be due to distraction within the school bus.
There were 22 juveniles in the bus when the accident happened, police said. The emergency crew reported that 4 students only complained of slight pains to the back and on the arm. However, 18 students had more serious injuries that included but not limited to head, neck, back, shoulder and hip injuries.
The 18 students along with the driver was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and evaluations.
