Police said a female pedestrian suffered severe injuries after a vehicle struck her on VFW Parkway.
Officials said the double accident began when a pickup truck lost control and struck a tree in the median. Authorities reported that the incident occurred when the pickup driver approached the intersection of VFW Parkway and Corey Street.
According to reports, a woman then attempted to help the pickup driver, who was trapped in the vehicle after the crash. Subsequently, a BMW struck the woman who had rushed to help the pickup driver. The second crash happened when the BMW approached from VFW Parkway and took note of the pickup too late. The BMW driver failed to maintain control while attempting to swerve to avoid the truck; the BMW struck the woman instead.
Upon arrival, paramedics immediately transported the woman, who is a nurse, to the closest hospital. Emergency responders also helped the pickup driver out of his vehicle. He suffered minor injuries and paramedics treated him at the scene of the accident, officials said.
The crash remains under investigation. Police have yet to file charges.
