Man Struck And Died In A Crash On Interstate 95 In Newburyport

Massachusetts State Police reported that a man died after he was hit by a Jeep on Interstate 95 in Newburyport.

The man, who was not identified, was struck by a 2016 Jeep Renegade.  The man that was struck was walking in the southbound lane of the highway when he was hit, the state police reported.  The Jeep Renegade was driven by a 66-year-old woman from Kittery Point, Maine.   This information was released from a statement by the State Police.

According to eyewitness report, the crash was very violent and the injured man sustained serious injuries.  He was unconscious when the first emergency responders arrived at the location of the crash. He was however quickly taken by ambulance to Anna Jacques Hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.

It was reported that the woman who drove the Jeep did not sustain any serious injuries. She was banged around in her car and may need physical therapy.  It is not known if the man caused the crash. It is not also known if the woman was distracted or if she lost control of the vehicle. Meanwhile as the authorities said, the actual cause of the crash is under investigation and no charges had been filed at this time.

Due to the crash, there are traffic delays on the route linking Boston from Newburyport. Drivers should be patience or take an alternate route.
