A 38-year-old man died after a car crash on Blue Hill Ave in Mattapan neighborhood, a Boston Police Department spokeswoman said.
The accident occurred at the busy intersection on the corner of Blue Hill Avenue and Norfolk Street In Mattapan. According to an eyewitness report the Ford truck was reported to have sped down Norfolk Street, entered the intersection, and struck the passenger side of a Lexus CT 200h hatchback. The impact was so severe that the truck and hatchback connected than drifted off the road. The vehicles hit the guardrail and parted forcefully from each other. The drivers sustained severe injuries from the crash. One of the passengers was stuck inside the car with back and neck injuries. The rescue team at the scene had to work for almost 30 minutes to free him from the confines of his crashed vehicle.
It was reported that after the accident happened the first emergency responders arrived at the site within minutes. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital. The passenger traveling in the hatchback was pronounced dead on arrival at the hosipital. The driver of the Ford truck was taken to the hospital complaining that his shoulder and right knee were injured.
The traffic at Norfolk Street and Blue Hill Avenue intersection was delayed while the crash scene was cleaned and cleared. Vehicles on this route had to pull off the road to give workers access to the accident scene.
