A portion of Kendall Drive in Miami was closed following a traffic accident that left two people with life-threatening injuries after a semi-trailer truck dropped its load of hale bales onto the road.
Police say the accident happened when a semi-trailer truck, driven by a 35-year-old, was heading southbound on Kendall Drive in Miami.
The two injured females in the accident were in a GMC pickup truck that was heading northbound when the semi-truck driver lost its load of hay bales as it was driving by the GMC. The hay bales fell onto the vehicle occupied by the two women causing them to crash into a ditch by the road and their vehicle to go up in flames.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived to the accident scene and was successful in putting out the fire but said the woman and her friend in the GMC truck were critically injured. They were both taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say charges are pending following the outcome of the investigation into the crash.
Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash. “Rear-end accidents are one of the most dangerous kinds of accidents. Often, when a person is rear-ended they are completely taken off-guard and have not had an opportunity to brace for an impact. Rear-end accidents often lead to serious back and neck injuries. We hope that those involved receive the proper medical care.”
