Multiple Injuries; MBTA Bus and School Bus Collide at Busy Roxbury Intersection
April 8, 2018 The Accident and Injury Team

According to the officials, a 57-year-old MBTA bus driver failed to stop after he drove through a flashing red light. The driver then crashed into a Boston Public School bus at a busy Roxbury intersection injuring five people.

Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said this accident happened at the intersection of Columbus Ave and Washington Street in Egleston Square. Sullivan added that the MBTA bus collided with the BPS bus which had already entered into the intersection.

Five passengers on board the MBTA bus reportedly sustained minor injuries as a result of the impact. EMS personnel treated them at the scene or transported them to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, there were no children on board the BPS bus at the time of the accident. Sullivan added that the driver of the school bus was also taken to a hospital for evaluation. The victims may have had chest, back, hip or head injuries.

Sullivan states, “The matter remains under investigation. That being said at this stage of the investigation we know enough to say with confidence that the MBTA bus operator will be issued a Massachusetts citation for Failure to Stop.”

Transit Police officials had previously issued misleading information regarding the crash.

Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash.  “We are sorry to hear about this serious bus accident that happened here in Boston. This crash could have been much worse. Fortunately there were no children on board the school bus. Children and adults are advised to seek professional attention after any accident whether it be minor or major. We hope that all of the injured people involved in this accident have a speedy recovery.”
