A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after being sideswiped and sustaining life-threatening injuries on Easum Road.
A 24-year-old man driving a brown Chrysler 200 southbound on Easum Road veered out of his lane and sideswiped a 2015 Ducati 848 Streetfighter ridden by a 47-year-old man. A witness reportedly said after the motorcycle was struck by the sedan it crashed and rolled over onto the shoulder of the road.
The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment as soon as EMS arrived. The rescue team reported that the motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries. He reportedly had injuries on his head, both arms, both legs and also on his back.
It was not known if alcohol was the cause of the crash and toxicology results for the driver are pending.
The driver of the sedan was reportedly not injured and the crash is still under investigation.
Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, commented on the crash. “This motorcyclist sustained serious injuries due to the negligence of the other driver. Motorcyclists have the same rights as larger vehicles and unfortunately, due to their size, they suffer larger injuries on average than other vehicles. We wish everyone involved in this accident a speedy recovery. Both minor and major crashes can lead to serious neck and back injuries and we urge all of the parties involved to seek professional medical and legal help. Please do not wait until you are in severe pain to seek assistance.”
