A BMW driver died after colliding with construction project in southbound express lanes of I-95, Florida Highway Patrol stated.
A wrong-way crash has resulted in the death of a person on Interstate 95 in Miami. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the wrong-way wreck occurred in the southbound express lanes near Northwest 62nd Street.
The BMW was traveling north in the southbound express lanes when it collided with a water truck and then a street sweeper during an overnight construction project that was ongoing, FHP Trooper Joe Sanchez revealed.
At this time, FHP does not know precisely where the driver entered the interstate.
Incidentally, a construction worker also sustained injuries as a result of debris from the crash.
“It could have been worse,” Sanchez said. “We usually have a crew in that area, so the impact from the truck may have saved some lives.”
FHP are withholding details regarding the driver until they can notify next of kin.
As a result of the crash, southbound traffic was backed up for several miles. At times, traffic reached all the way to the Golden Glades interchange. The express lanes were closed for several hours; however, they have been reopened.
