A crash on U.S. 1 at mile marker 26 has left a 60-year-old Lower Keys woman in a critical condition and this has led to her being airlifted to receive prompt medical attention, Police said.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the elderly woman involved in the crash was headed south in a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup when she rammed into a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup that was also traveling south. It was reported that she had failed to slow down leading to the front of her pickup rear ending the other Dodge pickup.
According to the crash report, she ran off the road to the left side and then collided with a concrete traffic barrier on the shoulder of the northbound lane. Eventually, her truck came to a final halt facing south in between the northbound shoulder and the northbound travel lane.
Florida Highway Patrol said, she suffered serious injuries and was taken to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami and was in a critical condition.
The crash report indicated however, that careless driving charges are pending. The other driver was not injured and didn’t require medical assistance, according to the FHP report.
Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash. “Rear-end accidents are one of the most dangerous kinds of accidents. Often, when a person is rear-ended they are completely taken off-guard and have not had an opportunity to brace for an impact. Rear-end accidents often lead to serious back and neck injuries. We hope that those involved receive the proper medical care.”
