It was reported that an accident, caused by a two-car crash on North Beacon Street near where it crosses the Leo M Birmingham Pkwy, has blocked the traffic westbound.
According to witness report, a car driven by a 30 year-old man was speeding on the highway when it crashed with an oncoming vehicle. The crash scene has stopped the flow of traffic on North Beach Street.
It was reported that there were 4 people involved in the accident. The car that reportedly was speeding was occupied by only the driver. The car it crashed into had a driver and 2 passengers.
First emergency responders arrived at the crash site and quickly called for a rescue chopper. One of the drivers had to be airlifted from scene of the accident. The other 3 people in this crash had non-life-threatening injuries. It was reported that they were complaining of hip and knee injuries.
The cause of the crash has not been released at this time. It is advised by the police department that drivers traveling along North Beacon Street should be patient. They need to expect traffic delays.
