A motorcyclist was taken to University of Louisville hospital with life-threatening injuries following a crash involving another vehicle.
According to Floyd County Sheriff Frank Loop, a 24 year-old man of Pekin, Indiana, was driving a blue Ford Fusion westbound on U.S. 150. He crossed the center line and sideswiped a Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Chad J. Eskridge, 47, of Fredericksburg, Indiana. An eyewitness reported that the motorcycle was struck by the sedan and it rolled over onto the side of the road.
Eskridge was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. The rescue team reported that the injuries sustained were life-threatening but did not provide details on the types of injuries. Often in motorcycle crashes the driver will have head, neck, back and limb injuries.
It was reported that the crash is still under investigation. Therefore, it was not yet known if the driver of the Ford was distracted by a phone or if alcohol played a role in the crash. Toxicology results for both drivers are pending. Loop said speed is also considered to be a factor in the crash. The crash was apparently caused by either or both of the drivers losing control.
The driver of the sedan was not injured, as reported by Loop.
Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash. “It’s tragic that there was an accident that involve the driver of a motorcycle. It was reported that the driver of the Ford was at fault. This does appear that motorcyclist was severally injured in this crash. We hope for his and his families sake that he makes a fast recovery.
