Louisville Metro Police reported that a 2014 Mazda 3 crashed into a school bus after violating a traffic light.

LMPD reported that a 42-year-old man from La Grange crashed his Mazda 3 into a school bus. Consequently, four students were on board. The crash occurred on New La Grange Rd, near the Lyndon Lane intersection. According to the report, the driver drove headlong without observing the red light signal on the traffic light. Then, the Mazda struck the school bus, which was heading toward Thorntons Gas Station.

The black Mazda reportedly struck the school bus on its side. The collision made the 39-year-old driver lose control of the bus. Subsequently, the school bus swerved and flipped; then laid on the road, police said. Fortunately, when the crash occurred there were no vehicles behind the school bus.

An emergency crew spokesperson reported that the schoolchildren suffered pains from the accident. The authorities also confirmed that the children were injured; similarly, the driver of the bus and the driver of the Mazda also sustained injuries. The driver of the bus has a fracture on the right leg, and the Mazda’s driver was severely injured, police stated. First responders transported all of the victims to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
