2 Injured In Road-Rage Crash On NW 7th Avenue In Miami

Two people were injured in a crash after an altercation. Police say driver followed victim from bar, rammed car before driving away

The crash happened near the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and Northwest 108th Street. The crash occurred following an altercation that started at a nearby sports bar, police said.

Miami-Dade police said a group of women got into an argument at a sports bar in Miami over a jukebox shortly before the crash. Friends of one of the victims reported that information to police, according to the arrest report.

The argument spilled into the parking lot where the two groups were separated by security. As the victim left the bar a 25 year-old man, who was with one of the groups of women involved in the argument, followed the car and intentionally rear-ended it before fleeing the scene, police said.

The car struck a palm tree before resting on its side. A passenger in the front seat was ejected on impact and sustained injuries to the back and neck. Rescue crews arrived shortly after the crash and transported the victim, in critical condition, to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. A passenger in the back seat of the car was also injured. She sustained chest injury and possible shoulder injuries and was taken to North Shore Medical Center. The driver sprained his ankle and was treated at the scene.

“A lady was screaming loudly for about 15 minutes. She was on the ground and there was a tree on top of her,” a witness who works nearby said. The driver’s friend told the police that the driver’s mother was the passenger who was ejected from the car.

According to the arrest report, the other driver drove off a few miles after crashing into the other car before he was stopped and arrested by police officers.  Police said that one of the women with the driver gave the officers an account of the incidences that preceded the crash which left the victims with serious bodily injuries. She said the driver said the victims “got what they deserved”.  All northbound and southbound lanes of Northwest Seventh Avenue were closed in the area during the crash investigation.

Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash.  “It is very sad to see an accident like this.  There were multiple injuries to all involved in Miami-Dade.  It appears that there were very serious and it looks like it could have been avoided. We hope that the investigation is quickly finished and that the injured quickly recover.  If you are unsure of what to do when you’ve been involved in an accident, please give our team a call.  We can treat your injuries and also, if you wish, refer you to a very competent attorney in case you have a legal claim.  Since we are NOT an attorney referral service, we have no interest in your legal claim beyond trying to help you obtain the best attorney to help you.”
