18 children sustained injuries from a single-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Poplar Street, according to the spokesperson of the emergency crew.
A school bus reportedly rolled over into a ditch by the side of the road when it was transporting students home from school. The 43-year-old driver appeared to have lost control of the bus when he was navigating the bend, police said in a statement. The police are not sure what caused the accident.
According to authorities, there are several factors that could have contributed to the crash. One possibility is that the driver could have exceeded the speed limit. Conversely, he could have been distracted by unruly students or other activities on the school bus.
There were 22 juveniles on the bus when the accident happened, police said.
The emergency crew reported that 14 students sustained injuries on the head, neck, back, shoulder and hip. Additionally, four students complained of slight pains on the back and on the arm.
Emergency crew transported the 14 students and the bus driver to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash. “We are sorry to hear about this school bus accident in Boston that left multiple students injured. It can be scary when children are involved in an accident, and their parents are not there to comfort them. Often, there can be residual injuries. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to seek medical treatment following a crash. We hope that all of the injured people involved in this accident have a speedy recovery.”
