Three people were injured in a horse-related crash in northwest Miami-Dade County, officials said.
Lt. Felipe Lay, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, said the crash happened in the 1600 block of Northwest 122nd Avenue. A Miami woman whose horse was killed in a road accident was traveling on NW 122nd Ave. when a speeding car plowed into her 17 year-old horse, killing him.
The car being driven by a tourist hit the horse with full force. The rider was injured and the impact sent the horse spinning, crushing two other people in the process. The horse was killed in the crash and the front of the tourist’s car completely caved in.
Lay said a horseback rider was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Lay did not disclose the victim’s condition. Two other people were also hurt. It was reported that these two people both had neck, head and possibly shoulder injures. No other details were given.
Dr. Brian Elias, from The Accident and Injury Team, comments on this crash in Miami. “It isn’t often in Miami that you hear of an equestrian injury but we have treated several injuries from fall off a horse in our practice. Normally you see neck and shoulder injuries when you fall from such a height. If you are unsure of what to do when you’ve been involved in an accident, please give our team a call. We can treat your injuries and also, if you wish, refer you to a very competent attorney in case you have a legal claim. Since we are NOT an attorney referral service, we have no interest in your legal claim beyond trying to help you obtain the best attorney to help you.”
